The Butler Opera Center (BOC) has achieved national recognition for it's stirring and extraordinary performances. It provides the professional experience for more than 40 undergraduate and graduate students each year. The Butler Opera Center is under the Direction of Professor Robert DeSimone with the continued support of Sarah and Ernest Butler.
Eleven years ago, the Butler Opera Center designed the innovative BOC Young Artist Program (BOCYAP) as a state-wide outreach program to prepare young singers for college auditions. Founded and led by Professor Darlene Wiley, this summer opera program provides a multitude of opportunities for young solo singers in acting, dancing, and singing.
The Butler School of Music is proud to announce the second year of the Butler Opera International Competition. An international outreach program directed by Professors Darlene Wiley and Dr. Robert DeSimone, the BOI competitively selects the world's five most gifted pre-professional singers who are ready to launch their careers in opera. The finalists travel to the University of Texas in Austin, where they are presented in concert with the Round Rock Symphony, conducted by Stefan Sanders. Each finalist receives international recognition, a prize of $3,000 (US) and a professional-grade audio and video recording of their performance with orchestra to use in launching their career.
