The Butler School of Music is proud to announce the 2019 Butler Opera International Competition and our new honorary partner, Austin Opera. The BOI will competitively select gifted pre-professional singers who are ready to launch their careers in opera. The finalists will travel to the University of Texas in Austin, where they will be presented in concert with the Central Texas Philharmonic, conducted by Stefan Sanders.
The deadline for singers to apply is March 1st, 2018. Finalists and semi-finalists will be announced March 15th. Concert repertoire will be announced on March 30th. Our plans for the third annual BOI this summer include the addition of a BOI Festival which is scheduled August 26-31, the week preceding the BOI Grand Concert on September 1. The semi-finalists in addition to the finalists will be invited to attend the BOI festival during which we will conduct Master Classes; provide intense individual coaching in voice, acting and diction and conduct a panel discussion on the “Opera Business” which will include audition coaching and official auditions administered by Austin Opera. Panelists will include Annie Burridge, General Director and CEO of the Austin Opera , Nathan DePoint, Director of Artistic Operations of the Austin Opera, Michael Heaston, Music Director of the Houston Grand Opera Studio, David Lomeli, Director of Artistic Administration of the Dallas Opera, Dominic Domingo, Director of Artistic Administration of the San Diego Opera, and Ana De Archuleta, President and CEO of ADA Artist Management.
